Fall farm tours

School tours at the Red Barn, South Santaquin Utah - southridgefarms.com

We live in a time where agriculture is becoming less understood by younger generations. The way we obtain our produce continues to evolve; Grandpa used to grow his own garden, Dad would drive to the farm, you go to the grocery store, and your children just see it magically appear in the fridge. While there are still many home gardens, and a growing awareness of the origins of the food we eat, far too many children don't know where their food comes from. Here at the Red Barn we want to change that. We want kids to have fun on our farm, that's why we have designed so many activities, but what we really hope for is that when they leave they will have a greater understanding of agriculture.

What to expect on you tour:

  1. Hayride to the pumpkin patch. (15 min.)
  2. Presentation on fruit farming in Utah. (10-15 min.)
  3. Free time. Kids can run through the bin maze, play on the slide, race the pedal tractors, and pick a free pumpkin for the classroom (1 per class). (30-35 min.)
  4. Hayride back to the barn. (15 min.)
  5. Distribution of fresh apple cider donuts and activity books.
  6. Back to school.

*Please note that the entire tour is outdoors. Make sure your class dresses for the often cold and sometimes wet fall weather.

Plan on at least one and a half to one and three quarter hours at the barn. Cost is $4.00 per child or $3.00 per accompanying adult. Minimum class size is 40 students. School teachers and other paid school employees are free. Call (801) 754-5511 to schedule your trip.

*Please note that the entire tour is outdoors. Make sure your class dresses for the often cold and sometimes wet fall weather.
